Roman Dominguez Obituary

In Loving Memory of Roman Dominguez Jr
August 28, 1934-April 25, 2025
Roman Dominguez Jr. went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1934-a time marked by economic hardship-Roman grew up with resilience, grit, and a deep sense of responsibility. At just eight years old, he began selling newspapers, and by nine, he was shining shoes on Saturdays to help support his family. When his mother passed away that same year, Roman faced profound loss early in life, yet he persevered through the difficult days that followed.

At 17, Roman answered the call to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving in the Korean War. As a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne, he also spent a year stationed in Japan. His time in the military shaped his lifelong dedication to service, discipline, and duty.

After returning home, Roman met the love of his life, Dolores Ortiz, on a blind date. They married in 1957 and began building a beautiful life together. Over the years, they raised seven daughters-Ramona (Steve), Rebecca (Richard), Elizabeth (Ron), Evelyn (Joe), Patricia (Matt), Maryhelen, and Christine (Geoff)-whom Roman lovingly referred to as his "Lucky Seven."

The family made their home in Pico Rivera, CA, before moving to Palmdale in 1986, and eventually retiring in Beaumont in 2012. Roman spent 22 years as a technical artist at Rockwell International, proudly contributing to the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. Later, he became a dedicated realtor in the Antelope Valley, always finding ways to help others.

In retirement, Roman remained deeply involved in his community. As a devoted member of Desert Edge VFW Post 233 in Beaumont, he helped countless veterans navigate the process of accessing the benefits they had earned. In March 2025, he was honored with the Commander's Award for his outstanding service-a recognition he deeply cherished.
Roman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dolores. He leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his seven daughters, six sons-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, his brother Reynaldo, and many nieces and nephews whose lives he touched with warmth and wisdom.

If one word could capture Roman's life, it would be committed. He was fiercely committed-to his family, to his country, and to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His unwavering faith and love were the foundations of his life, and his legacy continues through his children and grandchildren, many of whom cared for him with great devotion in his final days.

Roman was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. His life was a testament to strength, humility, and enduring love.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." Psalm 23:6
