"I say everybody wanna know why I sing the blues. Well, I've been around a long time. I
really have paid my dues" - B.B. King, "Why I Sing The Blues"
Ray "Bo" Shepard loved the blues, basketball, and the Bible but he wasn't all alliteration, he was a man of pure dedication. A proud Texan, Ray "Bo" Shepard started with the
humblest of beginnings in the Lone Star State. Ray graduated from Turner High School in Carthage, Texas. He was an excellent basketball player. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps where he served his country, and later his community when he relocated to California.
Ray spent most of his life in Banning, California, protecting and serving his community first as a member of the Banning Police Department; he especially cherished the time he spent teaching young people about the consequences of disobeying the law. Ray's next service to his community was at Beaumont United States Post Office as a postal carrier. After retirement from the post office, he secured employment as a security guard. He worked until his health took an aggressive decline. Ray was still working four days prior to being hospitalized. He simply loved his work, and the people he came across. A social butterfly of sorts, there wasn't a person he encountered in his life in which he did not leave an impression, especially when it came to his boisterous laugh, the thing those who knew him will miss most.
