Marshall Lee Palmer

Marshall Lee Palmer was born in Banning, California, on October 10,
1953, to Edward Lee Palmer Jr. (Dugie) and Barbara Jean Palmer, who
both preceded him in death.
On November 4, 1972, Marshall married the love of his life, Sue Jones.
Together they shared more than 53 years of love, laughter, and
unwavering devotion, building a life centered around family. They were
blessed with 2 children, Tammy Sibole (Paul Sibole) and Shawn Thursby
Palmer (Ben Thursby Palmer) who were the pride of his life.
Marshall's greatest joy came from being "Papa" to his 5 grandchildren:
Paul Sibole, Shae Sibole, Jacob Marshall Sibole, Hunter Sibole and
Hailey Sibole. Nothing made him happier than spending time with them;
whether it was cheering from the stands at baseball and football games,
sharing stories, or simply being together. He had 2 great grandchildren,
Isabella Sibole and Khloe Sibole. His family was his greatest
accomplishment and his greatest blessing!
He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Randy Palmer (Sheri
Palmer); his sister, Lynn Medvedeff (Jamie Medvedeff); his last surviving
uncle, Dick Silver, who at 91 years old remains a cherished part of the
family's legacy; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong
friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched.
Born and raised in Banning, Marshall attended Banning schools from
kindergarten through high school. He loved his hometown and never
wanted to leave. It was where he built his career, raised his family, served
his community, and formed lifelong friendships.
Marshall's career reflected his heart for service. After working for
Deutsche, a few other companies, and Nelson Oil as a tanker truck driver,
he answered the calling that had been part of his life since childhood.
While driving for Nelson Oil he volunteered as a Reserve Police Officer
with the Banning Police Department. He loved wearing the badge and
serving his community.
Law enforcement was more than a career-it was part of who Marshall
was. His father, Dugie served for many years as the Constable in Banning
before the office transitioned to the Sheriff's Department as the Marshal's
Office. Marshall admired his father's dedication and proudly followed in
his father' s footsteps.
Eventually, after a few years of encouragement from the Chief of Police,
Marshall joined the Banning Police Department full-time. Throughout his
distinguished career, he served as a police officer, detective, SWAT
officer, and team leader, ARCNET Drug Task Force officer, Gang Task
Force officer, Patrol Watch Commander, Canine Supervisor, and
ultimately retired as Commander. Even after retirement, his passion for
protecting others continued as Captain of the Special Investigations Unit
for San Manuel and later with Homeland Security Inc. He truly loved
serving others and considered it an honor to wear the badge and protect
others.
As much as Marshall loved his profession, it never came before his family.
They were his heart. If anyone in his family needed him, he was
there-without hesitation. One of the greatest examples of his
determination came seven years ago after enduring a 13 hour cancer
surgery. Despite the pain and the long recovery ahead, he insisted on
attending his grandson's baseball and football games as soon as he was
able. Being there for his family mattered more than anything else.
Marshall believed in giving back to his community. As a young man, he umpired
Little League baseball. He volunteered for many years for the Banning
Stagecoach Days Committee, served as President of the Banning Kiwanis Club,
coached youth football, and in 2016 began teaching handgun safety classes. He
later brought together other qualified instructors, helping educate and mentor
countless people over the years.
Marshall was also a devoted member of the Banning Sportsman Club, where he
spent countless hours with friends and fellow members. He served on the Board
of Directors for many years and was also a past President of the club. He
especially cherished shooting alongside his good friend and shooting partner,
Malcom Smith while his sister, Lynn faithfully pulled targets and kept score
during the shoots. The Sportsman Club held a very special place in his heart!
Marshall loved life and embraced every opportunity to spend time with those he
cared about. He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting with friends, watching the
Dodger games and cheering on football games with his grandsons, riding
motorcycles and three-wheelers with family, spending summers boating at the
river, riding his Harley-Davidson, making memories while camping in the RV.
To know Marshall was to know someone who would help anyone in need without
expecting anything in return. He was steady, dependable, loyal, and generous.
His quiet strength, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family earned
him the respect and admiration of everyone who knew him.
Although our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the years we shared
with him. His example of faithfulness, courage, service, and unconditional love
will continue to guide us. His stories will be told, his lessons remembered, and
his love will live on through his children, grandchildren, family, friends and all
whose lives he touched.
Marshall leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by titles or
accomplishments alone, but by the countless lives he made better simply because
he was part of them.
He will be deeply loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
