June Lee Schalk-Yearwood passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. She was 83 years old
. She was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, on January 23, 1942, and had lived in MO,
Oregon, Massachusetts, Japan, and finally California as the traveling spouse of her AirForce career husband, Bill, who preceded her in death. She is survived by one son,
Thomas Allan Yearwood of Banning, California. Also preceding her in death were her
parents, Mr. George and Mrs. Ruby Schalk, sisters, Ruby Eileen Schalk, Ethel Callow,
Mary Bausworth, Barbara Ayers, and brother, George Thomas Schalk. Other
survivors include sisters, Cassie (Mrs. Charles) Smith, Fredericktown, MO; Linda (Mrs.
Gary) Chapman, Alpharetta, GA and Mrs. Betty Schalk, Poplar Bluff, MO, sister-in-law.
June shared a deep and lasting bond with Jim Wilson, Sr., with whom she physically
helped build a home they shared for nearly 40 years. She embraced Jim's son, Jim Jr.,
as her own, considering him her stepson. Together, June and Jim built a fulfilling life on
their farm, which included horses, a thriving garden, and a beautiful orchard of citrus
trees-her pride and joy. A gifted gardener, June worked for many years at K-Mart
before retiring from the garden department at Home Depot, where her passion for plants
and knowledge of horticulture shone through.
June was also a lifelong reader, with a special love for the short stories and poems
written by her sister, Barbara Ayers. She found joy in music, both as a performer and a
leader. She sang with the Ollie McDonald Senior Talent Showcase in San Bernardino,
performing Broadway and popular tunes, and once served as the music director at her
church. She loved karaoke nights, often accompanied by Allan and his signature "air
guitar" performances. Above all, her son was the center of her world.
June will be remembered for her sharp wit, warm sense of humor, and rare ability to
truly listen and understand others. She was someone you could trust implicitly-a
confidante and a friend. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
