Jonas (Joe) Letbetter was born on August 14, 1933 in Heber Springs Arkansas to
Victor and Minnie Letbetter. In April of 1951, he joined the Air Force where he
worked in various assignments up until April 26 1955 when he was given an
honorable discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his four-year service, he
was awarded the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service
Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After separation from the Air Force, Joe went to
college where he received a degree in Manufacturing Engineering. It was during this
time that he would meet Joveta Chalmers and they would subsequently be married
on November 18, 1956. Almost a year later on November 10, 1957 they had a
daughter, Kimberly Jean. A year later on November 12, 1958 they had a son, Daniel.
Joe enjoyed the outdoors including developing landscaping concepts and at one
point owned his own landscaping company. Joe also enjoyed sports, especially
baseball and rooting for both the LA Dodgers and Angels. Joe and Joveta were also
publishers of a newsletter for the Plantation, the community where they lived in
Hemet.
In the course of their marriage, they moved quite a few times, ranging from Kansas,
Southern California, Chicago, Salt Lake City and back to Southern California as Joe
worked in various Manufacturing Management assignments of increasing
responsibility over 41 years
Joe is survived by his son Daniel and his wife Paula, granddaughter Shaina, and
granddaughter Jennifer as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews
