Jeffery Nathan Norte

Jeffery Nathan Norte, 47, of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones on April 14, 2018. He was born to Gerald Norte (Serrano/Cahuilla, Paiute Nations) and Linda Norte on January 7, 1971 in Bellflower, CA. He wed Sophia Maria Rios Norte on February 14, 2001 and spent a beautiful 20 years together in which they created and sustained a beautiful life & family. He was of the Serrano/Cahuilla & Paiute Nations like his father and was a Tribal Member of The Morongo Band of Mission Indians. During his life, Jeffery worked many jobs on The Morongo Reservation, starting as a teacher at the Morongo’s Head Start (Teacher Jeff), the first Bingo Hall, a Fireman that volunteered to train other Firemen, then later as a Public Workman for 9 years.

Jeffery had a humble & inviting spirit where everyone enjoyed his presence. In his eyes, everyone was deserving of respect and love as it was second nature to treat everyone equally & fairly. His acceptance of everyone whom he came into contact with felt that and will continue to feel that long after he’s gone. He loved his family and friends unconditionally that will be unmatched and irreplaceable.

Jeffery was an active & athletic man and enjoyed playing sports and watching them. If Jeff wasn’t playing ball or horseshoes, then he was at his children’s many sport/school activities. Norte took pride in himself and his family as he loved all of his children; there was never a time they didn’t feel that.

Jeffery is survived by his best friend, wife & mother of his children, Sophia Maria Rios Norte; his 7 beautiful children, Shane Michael Aaron Norte, Levi Legend Norte, Chase-Anthony Nathan Norte, Sean-Jeffery Cruz Norte, Sava’nah Nevaeh Rae Norte, Santos Isaiah Kane Norte and Uli’anah Sophia Lyndia Norte; Sophia’s siblings he raised and treated as his own children, Genevive Silva and James Silva; grandchild, Sun Ray Lucero Norte; his brothers, Christopher Norte, Issac Norte and Vincent Norte; he also enjoyed his time with his Godchildren & had a large Mexican family where enjoyed spending time with his cousins. Jeffery was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rudolph & Amparo Lopez.

A Visitation & Wake will begin at 5pm, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Morongo Indian Reservation Community Center, Banning, CA. Graveside Service & Burial will be at 10am, Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Tribal Cemetery of The Morongo Indian Reservation, Banning, CA. Arrangements entrusted to Wiefels & Son Mortuary, Banning, CA.
