Genevieve Irma Lyons

Genevieve "Jenny" Lyons, a cherished matriarch and beacon of her community, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, in Beaumont, CA, at the age of 98. Born on May 15, 1927, in Hemet, CA, Jenny's life was a testament to her selfless, loving, and kind nature.

Jenny is survived by her devoted husband, Spencer Lyons, and their loving children, Georgiana Lario-Saubel, Joyce Lario, Keith Lyons, Leon Lyons, and Dion Lyons (Corrinne Martinez). She was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry on her legacy of love and compassion. Jenny also leaves behind her sisters, Florentina "Tina" Tortes Chaparosa and Barbara Tortes Duro, as well as her sister-in-law, Rose Tortes. She was a beloved aunt to numerous nephews and nieces, and a friend to many within the extended family and beyond. Jenny was predeceased by her sons, John Lario and Timothy Miguel, and her siblings, Caroline "Lena" Chaparosa, Florian, Nick, Joe, and Marcus Tortes.

Despite completing her formal education at the 8th grade, Jenny's wisdom and entrepreneurial spirit led her to become the owner and operator of Jenny's Cahuilla Food Booth alongside her daughter Georgiana Saubel. Her dedication to her craft and community earned her recognition from the California Legislature with an Assembly Resolution in 2024, as well as numerous presentations and awards.

Jenny's commitment to her faith was evident as she attended St. Mary's Catholic Church on the Morongo Reservation. Her passion for her Native culture was unwavering, as she actively participated in teaching traditional Bird Dancing and Fry Bread cooking classes, ensuring the preservation of her heritage for generations to come.

Jenny's life was a beautiful tapestry of service, tradition, faith and love. Her presence was a comfort to all who knew her, and her teachings will continue to inspire those she touched. As we bid farewell to Genevieve "Jenny" Lyons, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever enrich the hearts of her family and community. Jenny's memory will be cherished and her impact everlasting.
