Christopher Duran Obituary

Obituary of Christopher Duran
June 20, 1962 – December 31, 2020
Christopher stood on podiums accepting his medals for 1st place, being acknowledged by his peers as the best wrestler in his weight class; as regulated by CIF Wrestling in the state of California, from 1978 – 1980. Christopher also competed at the collegiate level from 1980-1981 for Cal-State Fullerton, and Cerritos College, still maintaing the status as #1 in his weight class.
Christopher mastered the art of strategy from a child, being rated as a “mentally gifted mind” with a photographic memory from Jurupa Hills Elementary school in Fontana. In middle school at Sequoia Jr High, Christopher was on the honor role every year with little effort.

Christopher found his true passion in wrestling at Fontana High School, or “FoHi”, when he was a sophmore. Christopher excelled in his progress after he and his coach decided to compete in a lower weight class. Christopher stood 6 feet tall and weighed 145 pounds. No one could stand in his way of first place. Christopher wrestled like a lion, pushed hard, and left it all on the mat.
Christopher’s iconic move was the “fireman’s carry”, where he’d lift his opponents off the mat, and pummel them to their backs, pin them down, then one … two … three, the struggle was over and Christopher stood with his right arm lifted in the air as the winner victorious of the match. Christopher mastered this move to win matches, all the way to CIF champion, and leave it all on the mat.

The Duran family was very proud of their conquering hero. But our conquering hero passed away on New Years Eve of 2020. In Christopher’s wrestling style-he left it all on the mat, and passed away with his accolades, his pride of accomplishments, but his legacy will forever be remembered by his family and friends.

Christopher passed away at the age of 58. Chris was born in San Diego, California to Samuel Socorro Duran Jr and Alexandria Balderas Duran on June 02, 1962. Chris was the 3rd of 4 siblings. He is survived by his sister, Lorina; and, two brothers, Samuel III., and Juan Duran. Chris is also survived by his two sons: Christopher and Dakota Duran; six grandchildren: Breanna Olguin, Phillip Olguin, Logan Duran, Xayden Duran, Zander Duran and Bella Donna Rose Duran; and one great grandchild, Jonathan Raymond Julio . Chris is preceded in death by his daughter, Alicia Duran who passed away August 29, 2020 and his father Samuel S Duran Jr. who passed away on September 12, 2017.
