Age 89, resident of Sun Lakes in Banning, CA for the last 20 years, formerly of Diamond Bar, CA for 33 years, passed away July 9, 2021. Carmen was born in La Seu d,Urgell, Spain on May 18, 1932. She survived the Spain Civil War by taking refuge in southern France at a young age along with her blind mother and 6 siblings. In Bordeaux, France they received assistance from global charities, including The Quakers from Whittier,CA. From the Spanish Civil war they then had to endure the WWII German occupation of Southern France near the city of Carcassonne. Spain was a neutral country during WWII and for this reason they were able live without harassment from the Nazi.
Carmen is survived by her three sons, Denis of Talent, OR, Terry of Upland, CA and Louis, Jr. of Banning, CA; grandson, Michael Thomas of Moorpark, CA; great grandsons Asher Michael age 8 and Joseph William age 10 months; sister-in-law Irene Dorado of Pennautier, France; of her six siblings only the youngest Lillianne from Paris, France remains, also her sister-in-law Suzanne Sirvent six months her junior remains in Toulouse, France. Many nieces and nephews in Canada and France.
Some of her hobbies were gardening, flower arrangements and singing with the Pomona Community Choir. Carmen was loved by many that knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held from 4pm-7pm, Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Wiefels and Son Memorial Chapel, 50 E. Nicolet St. Banning, CA with Rosary at 7pm. Services will be 10am, Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 1234 Palm Ave., Beaumont, CA, with GravesiteServices immediately following at Stewart Sunnyslope Cemetery, 40 S. Pennsylvania, Beaumont, CA
