Alton Williams Obituary

Alton Dolan Williams, passed away peacefully in Banning, California, on the 26th of
July, 2024, at the age of 75. Alton, born on December 16, 1948, in New Orleans,
Louisiana, was a beacon of light and laughter in the lives of everyone he touched.
Alton's early life in New Orleans set the stage for a life rich in connection and
accomplishment. A proud graduate of John H. Martyn on May 31, 1966, Alton's
athleticism shined brightly as he was recognized All-City and All-District Defensive
Deep Halfback with the Louisiana Interscholastic Athletic and Literary Organization
Football team. He continued his education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA.

Professionally, Alton became a cornerstone at GTE/Verizon, where he dedicated 30
years to managing the supply warehouse with an eye for detail and a knack for keeping
spirits high. He earned an appreciation award from GTE in May 2000 for his dedication.
Upon retirement he moved back to Kenner, LA, and started Reliable Skycap Inc
with his father and uncles at Louis Armstrong International Airport.

Away from work, Alton was deeply involved in his Banning, Ca community. His
membership in the community ranged from the Desert Sand Casino to the spirited
camaraderie of the Beaumont Concrete Men's Softball Team. Alton was an enthusiastic
supporter of local athletics, contributing his time to the Banning Booster Club and the
Friday Night Chain Gang for Banning High School Football, which became a cherished
ritual alongside dear friends Alvin Walton Sr, Willie D, and James Scott, among others.

Alton's legacy is carried on by a loving family, who reflect the values he instilled in them:
sons Alton D. Williams, Jr. (Twyla), Harvey, LA and Wesley Williams, Kenmore, WA;
daughter Amber Williams (Bryan Johnson), Bakersfield, CA; brother Reginald Williams
(Ethel); and sisters Glenda Alice Teague, Romona Williams, Kathleen Smothers (Leon),
and Dione Williams (Carolyn Fox). His siblings-in-law, Charley Johnson (Kris), Charlene
Hunter, and Raymond Johnson (Diane), also hold dear the memories they forged
together. Alton's role as a grandfather and great-grandfather was adorned with
tenderness and humor, leaving a lasting impact on his five grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. His extended family, including numerous uncles, aunts, nieces,
nephews, cousins, and extended family, along with a legion of friends, will forever
remember his warmth and jovial spirit.

Alton now reunites in peace with his beloved departed: grandparents John & Josephine
Delaney and Robert Sr. & Dora Williams; brother Robert Williams, III; sister Deborah F.
Magee; his cherished parents, Deloris Quinn Williams and Robert Williams, Jr., and his
forever love and cherished life-long partner Beverly A. Williams.

As we reflect on Alton's life, we are reminded of the soft spoken, loving, funny, and
gentle man who left an impact on his family and community. His legacy of laughter
and love will resonate through generations, reminding us all to embrace life with the
same heartfelt vitality that he did. Alton Dolan Williams will be deeply missed but
eternally cherished.
