Freddie Stokes

October 21, 1988 ~ March 21, 2018 (age 29) 29 Years Old

Our beloved Freddie was born on October 21, 1988 in Riverside, California to Lisa Johnson and Freddie Stokes.

He was raised and lived most of his life in Banning, California where he also completed his K-12 education. At one point he even worked for Banning Unified in multiple capacities, including a playground aide.  On the playground, the kids adored him and knew they could count on him for help. As a student, Freddie’s many highlights included perfect attendance in school, grades K-5.  Additionally, he excelled in middle and high school athletics in track and field and baseball. Freddie was also passionate and talented in performing arts that included playing the trumpet as a member of the Banning High School Marching Band. He was an extraordinary artist in creating his pencil and charcoal sketches to display to his friends and family.

A social butterfly by nature, Freddie probably knew everyone in Banning.  His kind-heartedness and contagious laugh resulted in multiple close friendships, many since childhood, and many he considered family.  If you needed something and Freddie could help, consider it done.  He left no friend unattended.  But Banning was not the only place Freddie called home.  For a short while, he resided in Louisiana with his father and sisters.  There he worked at Michael’s Art Store and Teleperformance.  And because he loved skateboarding, that’s how he commuted to work when he lived in Shreveport.

Personally, and even in sickness, Freddie’s faith grew stronger and became a growing Christian when family shared some biblical material from Dr. Adrian Rogers back in October 2017.   During this time, Freddie received a prayer journal and recorded his thoughts and prayers during his times of strength.  He also found comfort in listening to his grandmother read from his journal and reflect on his entries; as well as extended conversations with his mother.

Freddie was preceded in death by his sister Kristine Stokes; and his maternal and paternal grandfathers, Robert Johnson and Freeman Stokes.

He is survived by his parents Lisa Johnson of Orlando, FL.; Freddie Stokes of Banning, CA; brother and sister Chazz and Charla Stokes of Compton, CA; sister, Felisa Leary (Avery) of Shreveport, LA; maternal and paternal grandmothers Patricia Callahan and Betty Jo Stokes, both of Banning, CA; nephew Demetric Brown, Jr. of Rancho Cucamonga; nieces Kylise Edgerson and Addisyn Leary of Shreveport, LA; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
