Alex Ryan Marcotte “Honey Boy, Godson” 18 years old, a Tribal Member of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. Alex passed away on December 28, 2018, in Banning, CA. Alex was born in San Bernardino, CA, to his parents Daniel Ryan Marcotte and Jeanette Lee Burns who are both Tribal Members of Morongo. He attended Banning High School, where he graduated May of 2018 and played baseball. Alex loved playing Rez Ball, received many baseball and softball awards throughout his lifetime. He lived life to the fullest, was kind-hearted, respectful, and always had a huge infectious smile. Alex was funny, energetic, and there wasn’t a room that he couldn’t light up with his presence. He brought so much joy not only to his family and friends, but to all that came in contact with him.
Alex is survived by his Parents, Daniel, Jeanette, and Stepmother Erin Castaneda; Cousin Kelly; Grandmother Dora Lugo; Great Grandmother Charlotte Ruiz; Great Grandfather Calvin (Sunday) Martin; Siblings Lena Chavez, Michelle Gomez, Blake Sumner, (Elaine, Kaya, Daniel, Ashura, Nahuun, and Ryan Marcotte); Godparents (Frank and Non Miguel); Aunts and Uncles (Armond and Mandy Marcotte), Jerry Marcotte, Lisa Burns, Sam and Manny Hernandez; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Alex was #1 to his Wah Pops Miguel; Sidekick Dylan Artea; Niece Azrah Bee and Nephew Kenai. He was preceded in death by Grandmother Elaine Marcotte (Morongo); Grandfather Gerald Allen Marcotte (Whittier); Grandfather William Burns (Rialto); Great Grandmother Dorothy Lugo (Mesa Grande); Great Grandmother C.M. Hughes (Rialto); Great Grandfather Peter Ruiz (Morongo); Uncle Alex Scott (Morongo) and Uncle James Lee Burns (Chula Vista); Cousin James R. "Mijo" Lugo (Morongo).
Services are Monday, January 7, 2019, viewing from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at the Morongo Community Center, 13000 Malki Rd. Banning, CA 92220. Tuesday, January 8, 2019, Mass and Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Cemetery, 11231 Mission Rd., Banning, CA 92220. Luncheon to follow at the Morongo Community Center.
We will cherish all of the memories with Alex, and he will forever remain in our hearts “Oh Yee!”
